"It's not tribe against tribe, nation against nation - it's every man for himself ... but in a good way."

West Anglia. The new name for Wales.

Three bumbling terrorists cling to their values as the modern world invades the land of their fathers. An archaeological discovery in the valleys leads to the scientific coup of the millennium. And in Sainsbury's, a man who can't even choose a pasta sauce struggles to choose the perfect life.

A searing new comedy about fighting for freedom and climbing the food chain.

Background

Natural Selection is an award-winning new play by Paul Rigel Jenkins. It won the King’s Cross New Writing Award 2005 and was staged as part of the Theatertreffen Festival of Theatre in Berlin 2006. The play was further developed as part of Theatre503’s ‘Fearless Festival’ in April 2007. Uniquely, the festival presented the play in a series of rehearsed readings followed by post-show discussions with the audience. Further to this feedback, Paul would write a new draft of the script for the next day’s rehearsal, performing an improved version each night over three showings.

Natural Selection is darkly humorous in style and explores themes of terrorism, Darwinism, the controversy surrounding ‘designer’ babies and cultural identity.
